A former lode Au occurrence/mine located in the S½ & SW¼ sec. 34, T19N, R10E, MDM, 0.5 km (0.3 mile) ESE of Alleghany, on National Forest land. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 100 meters.

Mineralization is a vein deposit hosted in amphibolite and Late Permian schist. The ore body strikes N40W and dips 45NE at a thickness of 2.13 meters. The deposit is an irregular, 1 to 7 foot thick quartz vein, where continuous, 1 to 3 feet, within massive amphibolite schist, probably continuous with branch of the Eclipse vein. Strike in the productive upper levels is N20-60W and the dip is 30-60NE. It may follow the same normal fault as the Ophir vein. There are several small thrust faults, none displacing the vein more than 10 feet. At the lowest level there is a sharp change in strike that seems due to pre-mineralization faulting of a NW fissure by a N fissure. There are 2 types of post-mineralization faults: 1.) Sub-parallel to, but crossing the vein; and, 2.) Steeply, usually with dipping, northerly striking fissures. Mostly only a few feet, but one, which may be the same the Sixteen-to-One, may displace the vein as much as 250 feet. There is little mariposite. Brecciated, re-cemented quartz was observed along the hanging wall associated with high-grade ore & small faults, with quartz but not arsenopyrite. Pyritized schist occurs in the productive part of the vein. High-grade ore occurs mostly in small bunches. Local rocks include undivided pre-Cenozoic metavolcanic rocks, unit 2 (undivided).

Workings include underground openings with an overall depth of 60.96 meters and comprised of a drift adit, an inclined shaft 380 feet on the dip of the vein, totaling 2,500 feet of workings.

Production data are found in: McCulloch, W.C., Oesterling, W.A., Spurck, W.H., & Tischler, M.S. (1964).

Total production was between $90,000 & 100,000 (period values). Ferguson estimated $27 to $32 (period values) of Au per vein foot.
