A former lode Au-Cu-Ag occurrence/mine located in sec. 4, T18N, R10E, MDM, 0.9 km (0.6 mile) E of Mack House and 2.2 km (7,100 feet) SW of Alleghany, on National Forest land. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 1,000 meters. No significant production since 1892, although it was reopened several times since then.
Mineralization is a vein deposit hosted in gabbro and serpentine. The ore body strikes N25E and dips 45E at a thickness of 3.05 meters. The vein's N attitude given above. To the S it swings nearly parallel to the serpentine contact, or N30W. The dip varies from 25 to 80 W. Quartz is absent in places, or becomes small, irregular stringers along repeatedly sheared walls. Later shearing has crushed the quartz, or brecciated it. This was followed by quartz cement. There is also a breccia of partially silicified gabbro. Shearing varies in intensity. In one place, little gouge & a few feet away. (USGS MRDS grammar) Much evidence of reverse left lateral movement. Post-mineralization shears are steeper & cut the vein irregularly. The vein lies entirely in gabbro. High-grade ore is associated with coarse arsenopyrite. Gold is associated with area of post-first-quartz shearing. Local alteration includes carbonitization. Local rocks include ultramafic rocks, chiefly Mesozoic, unit 2 (Western Sierra Nevada and Klamath Mountains).
Workings include underground openings with an overall depth of 82.3 meters and comprised of 3 adits. The upper 2 adits are caved.
A conservative estimate gave $90,000 (period values) of total production.
