A former lode Au-PGE (Pt) occurrence/mine located in sec. 34, T19N, R10E & in sec. 3, T18N, R10E, MDM, 0.5 km (0.3 mile) SSE of Alleghany, on National Forest land. Intermittently active from 1922 to 1959. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 100 meters.

Mineralization is a vein deposit (Mineral occurrence model information: Model code: 273; USGS model code: 36a; Deposit model name: Low-sulfide Au-quartz vein; Mark3 model number: 27) hosted in rocks of the Kanaka Formation (dolomite, greenschist, and slate). The ore body is a vein that strikes N20W and dips 45-60SW. Controls for ore emplacement included fractures. The schist was probably derived from tuff. Schist and tuff are interbedded. Two other small veins occur on the property and strike N20W, dipping 45-60SW, and striking N22W, dipping 50SW. Both contain an unusually large amount of calcite and siderite. Ore shoots are associated with carbonate wallrock alteration. Local alteration includes carbonitization. Local rocks include Mesozoic gabbroic rocks, unit 2 (undivided) and/or undivided pre-Cenozoic metavolcanic rocks, unit 2 (undivided).

Local structures include the Melones Fault Zone.

Related tectonic structures include the Sierra Nevada foothills accreted terranes.

Workings include surface and underground openings and comprised of a 104 foot shaft with several adits.

Production data are found in: McCulloch and others (1964).

Analytical data results: Pt was detected in Au samples to as much as 60.7 parts per million (ppm), averaging 19.1 ppm.
