A former baryte-Au-As mine group located in secs. 9, 10, 15 & 16, T4S, R27E, MDM, on National Forest land (adjoins the Mammoth Mine [Old Mammoth] on the W and NW). MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 1,000 meters.
Mineralization is hosted in porphyry. The ore body is 6.1 meters thick. A quartz-porphyry lead 15-20 feet wide carries pyrite and arsenopyrite. A 4 foot quartz vein is auriferous and said to carry $4 in Au. Local rocks include Quaternary volcanic flow rocks, unit 2 (Long Valley Caldera).
Workings include surface and underground openings comprised of a shaft, tunnel, open cut and crosscut. On the Sierra No. 3 claim, a tunnel was driven S 135 feet on the vein. On the Sierra No. 4 claim there is a vertical shaft 80 feet deep - also an open cut S of the shaft exposes 4 feet of baryte. On the No. 6 claim, a crosscut was driven 400 feet, NE 300 feet from the portal. A drift was driven 50 feet NE and 50 feet SW.
Production information: Idle except for assessment work. Some assessment work. A small shipment was made in 1940, by A.E. Beauregard, Bishop, California. No production record found.
