A former lode Au-Pb mine located in sec. 15 and in the N½ sec. 22, T3S, R19E, MDM, 0.9 km (3,000 feet) N of Clearing House, on National Forest land. Discovered in 1863. Operated by L. G. Goodrich. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 1,000 meters.
Mineralization is a vein deposit, with as many as 9 or more veins configured in 2 sets, hosted in granite, slate, schist, hornfels, and diorite. The ore body strikes N50W and dips 40-50NE at a thickness of 3.35 meters. Veins on the Rutherford Mine strike N10-15E, 75-80W and N75-80E, with a nearly vertical dip, cutting coarse-grained biotite granodiorite or quartz diorite cut by dikes of fine-grained hornblenditic quartz diorite. The veins cut coarse granite with small pendants of slate, schist & hornfels. Local rocks include Paleozoic marine rocks, undivided, unit 4 (Western Sierra Nevada) and/or Mesozoic granitic rocks, unit 3 (Sierra Nevada, Death Valley area, Northern Mojave Desert and Transverse Ranges).
Workings include underground openings with a length of 579.12 meters and an overall depth of 97.54 meters. The Rutherford Mine has a 320 foot shaft and winze, and a 200 foot shaft with considerable drifting. The Cranberry Mine has 3 adits over 200 feet long, an 80 foot shaft, drifts and stopes.

No production record but must have been substantial. The ore averaged $10 to $20/ton (period values), with some masses to $4,500/ton (period values).
Analytical data results: Pyrite concentrates assayed $35 - $40/ton (period values) in the 1880's.
