Collecting in andesite boulders along dam spillway.
The boulders along the spillway came from the excavation of the spillway trench itself. Doug Merson's 2003 photo on the Lemolo Lake page shows the lava (andesite) flow in the background from where the boulders were derived. Most of the interesting mineralogy occurs in the bottom contact zone (roughly 2cm) of that flow.
There are other boulders there, but they are composed of a lighter colored andesite versus the dark gray with a reddish, rubbly contact zone.
