A Sn occurrence/prospect located in the NE¼ sec. 23, T9N, R18W, SBM, 10.4 km (6.4 miles) ENE of Lebec and 11.5 km (7.1 miles) NE of Gorman (Los Angeles County) (300 yards W of the large spring aty the head of Alamos Creek). The discovery prospect of the district. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 500 meters.
Mineralization is hosted in limestone. Small, tin-bearing, iron-rich tactite, about 6 feet long and 18 inches wide, is exposed at the contact between limestone and granite. The minerals are maghemite, magnetite, ludwigitte and altered amphibole (probably anthophyllite). They are coated with Mn oxides, have fibrous structure, and are associated with magnetite, arsenopyrite and molybdenite. Cassiterite occurs as disseminated grains. Some Sn may be in the ludwigite and other minerals. Associated rocks include Late Cretaceous granite. Local rocks include Mesozoic granitic rocks, unit 3 (Sierra Nevada, Death Valley area, Northern Mojave Desert and Transverse Ranges).
Workings include surface openings.
Analytical data results: Ore grade is up to 3% Sn.
