A former lode Au occurrence/mine located in the N½SE¼ & N½SW¼SE¼ sec. 19, T9N, R10E, MDM, 1.5 km (1.0 mile) NNE of Mount Aigare (coordinates of record) and 2.6 km (1.6 miles) S of Frenchtown, on the divide between French Creek and Big Canyon Creek (3 miles S of Shingle Springs), on private land. Discovered in 1885. Property is patented agricultural land. Operated by G. L. Tripp. Originally operated in 1885 and again in 1888. It was idle during the the 1890's but around 1900 a cyanidization plant was erected. A small amount of work was done in 1926 and 1928. The property was prospected during the period 1936-1937; however, little Au was produced. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 100 meters. The "Knob Hill Mine" may be near, or the same as, this mine .

Mineralization is a vein deposit hosted in schist and porphyry. Vein material is honeycombed quartz and fine-grained silicified schist. The country rock is amphibolite schist. The vein, ore shoots, and ore bodies are over 80 feet thick, 300 feet wide, and cut the schistosity of the enclosing rocks. The oxidized zone extends to a depth of about 100 feet. Auriferous pyrite is disseminated. Local rocks include pre-Cenozoic metasedimentary and metavolcanic rocks undivided.

Workings include surface and underground openings with an overall depth of 17.68 meters. There are several drift adits and open cuts along with a 58 foot shaft and a winze.

Production data are found in: Clark, Wm. B. & D.W. Carlson (1956).

A small amount of Au was produced in 1885.
