A former lode Au-Cu occurrence/mine located in the NW¼NW¼ sec. 31, T9N, R10E, MDM, 0.9 km (0.5 mile) SSW of Mount Aigare (coordinates of record) and 1.7 km (1.1 miles) NNE of Brandon Corner, along the E side of French Creek (3½ miles NE of Latrobe; 5½ miles S of Shingle Springs), on private land. Operator Lange, William And Loomis, L W. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 500 meters. Probably the workings are some of those shown in the NW¼ of the section on USGS quadrangle Latrobe, California, topo map.
Mineralization is a vein deposit hosted in diabase. The ore body strikes N and dips 65E at a thickness of 6.1 meters and a length of 91.44 meters. This deposit is located in a belt of metavolcanic rocks W of the Mother Lode Gold Belt. The vein has an average thickness of 20 feet. The ore body is dark green, fine- to medium-grained metadiabase, traced for 300 feet. Minor amounts of of chalcopyrite and a trace of arsenopyrite are also present in the ore. Pyrite is disseminated. Local rocks include Mesozoic volcanic rocks, unit 2 (Western Sierra Foothills and Western Klamath Mountains) and/or pre-Cenozoic metasedimentary and metavolcanic rocks undivided.
Workings include underground openings comprised of a 30 foot inclined shaft (early 1956), plus adits. The surface plant included a headframe and milling equipment. Under development since 1953.
No production record was found.
Analytical data results: Assays range from $2.80 to $60 (period values) Au/ton. The estimated average is $20 to $30 (period values).
