A former fire clay (refractory)-U deposit/mine located in the NW¼ sec. 36, T12S, R19E SBM, 10 miles NE of Glamis, in the central Chocolate Mountains. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 500 meters.
Mineralization is hosted in the Borrego Formation (metasedimentary rock). The ore body strikes N70E and dips 50SE at a thickness of 15.24 meters and a length of 457.2 meters. Controls for ore emplacement included a fault in sericite mica schist overlain by quartzite. A hydrothermally altered zone along a fault contact between metasedimentary rocks and rhyolite porphyry. The zone of alteration is 25 to 30 feet wide. Abnormal radioactivity is 3.4 mr/hour. Autunite, carnotite and torbernite minerals occur with quartz, talc, gypsum and calcite. Local alteration includes advanced argillic alteration. Associated rocks include Pliocene rhyolite. Local rocks include Schist of various types and ages, unit 2 (Southern and West-central California).
Workings include surface and underground openings comprised of a 40 foot adit and 100 foot open cut.
Production information: Less than 2,000 tons mined.
Analytical data results: SiO2: 70.0%; Al2O3: 20.50%; K2O: 4.00%; Na2O: 11.56%; TiO2: 6.25%; Fe2O3: 0.05%; LOI: 3.70%.
