A Mn occurrence/prospect located in sec. 9, T4N, R14E, MDM, 2.5 km (1.5 miles) E of Sheep Ranch, along San Antonio Creek (on the S side (E slope) of San Antonio Creek and about 250 feet above the creek; 6 miles N of Murphys) MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 1,000 meters.
Several stubby lenses of manganese-bearing metachert occur in thin-bedded quartz-sericite schist. Small lenses of partly oxidized quartz-manganese-garnet rock lie within the larger lenses of metachert. No good oxide ore was developed. The prospect has no economic value as a present source of Mn. Local rocks include Paleozoic marine rocks, undivided, unit 4 (Western Sierra Nevada).
