A former Au-Ag-Cu-Pb mine located in the S½ (near the center of the sec.) sec. 29, T6N, R14E, MDM, 0.4 km (0.3 mile) S of Fuchs, along the South Fork Mokelumne River (3½ miles E of Railroad Flat on the ridge S of the river). Operated during the periods 1883 to 1890, 1906 to 1910, 1915 to 1924, 1934 to 1941, and 1948 to 1949. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 500 meters.
Mineralization is hosted in slate, schist, and hornfels. The ore body strikes N and dips 75W at a thickness of 1.52 meters. The vein averages 5 feet in thickness. The footwall is graphitic slate and schist of the Calaveras Formation. The hanging wall is fine-grained hornfels. The quartz ranges from milky-white to dark grey. Abundant sulfides are present. Local rocks include Paleozoic marine rocks, undivided, unit 4 (Western Sierra Nevada).
Local structures include several veins of buff-colored, fine-grained diorite, closely associated with the vein.
Workings include underground openings comprised of a 250 foot inclined shaft with 3 levels, with 2 at 100 and 200 feet, with a considerable amount of drifting with longes (?) being 600 feet. S drift on the 100 foot level.
