A former lode Au-Zn-Cu occurrence/mine located in the SW¼SE¼ sec. 29, T7N, R13E, MDM, 0.9 km (0.5 mile) SE of Pioneer, S of the South Branch Sutter Creek, on private land. The property is a patented mining claim and is owned by Mary and Sadie R. Grillo. Operated by V. F. Pierce, W. H. Riddle and F. C. Hamburg. This mine was active intermittently in the early 1890's, 1939 to 1942. The new operators leased the property in 1950 and were sinking a new shaft. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 100 meters. Probably is the working shown as located above, on USGS quadrangle West Point, California, topo map (1949).

Mineralization is a polymetallic quartz vein deposit. The ore body is 0.76 meter thick. Free gold occurs in the vein and stringers of granodiorite. The free gold is associated with pyrite, and some chalcopyrite, sphalerite, bornite and arsenopyrite. Country (host) rock not identified. Associated rocks include diorite. Local rocks include Mesozoic granitic rocks, unit 3 (Sierra Nevada, Death Valley area, Northern Mojave Desert and Transverse Ranges).

Workings include underground openings. The old workings are comprised of 2 caved shafts. A new shaft, sunk in the 1950's, is 85 feet deep with drifts on the 55 foot and 75 foot levels.

Production data are found in: Carlson, D.W. & W.B. Clark (1954).

Production was about $15,000 (period values) of Au & Ag with some Cu & Pb recovered between 1936 and 1942. Some production reported in 1954.
