With the road running right through the middle of the site there is a good deal to see. Contained within the bend of the road is a huge pile of crushed sand. On the upslope side of the road are the imposing ruins of the processing plant and to the left a high wall of the aqueduct with part of the arch of a tunnel still visible in its base. Another aqueduct shared the line of a tramway linking the processing plant to Frongoch Mine at the top of the hill and a deep cutting is bridged over by the road to Frongoch Mine.

Small dumps are present further down the road towards the farmhouse with a sand dump spread out over the field on the opposite side of the road suggesting perhaps an independent venture.

In the 1800's, the Wemyss Mine was purchased by Frongoch, so that the Wemyss mine adit on the hillside to the west could be used to drain the Frongoch workings. A tunnel was driven to connect the mines underground for this purpose.

Large quantities of galena are present in the tips intimately associated with bright white quartz. Elsewhere brown decomposed sphalerite is more commonly associated with the slate.

Description: At all the other mines I have visited within a 10 mile radius (around Cwmystwyth and Ysbyty Ystwyth area) it has been common for the galena to occur as deposits directly onto the slate, often just as thin coverings but also as larger nodules. At Wemyss however it is notable that the galena is almost always intimately associated with bright white quartz suggesting the two minerals were deposited simultaneously and the two are very common as fist size lumps or larger.
