Major Fe mining, started in 1961 and operated by Vale (CVRD, Companhia Vale do Rio Doce).
Covers the municipalities of Brumadinho and Sarzedo.
This iron mine is located in the Iron Quadrangle Region, near Belo Horizonte city. In the contact of the Batatal shales with the iron formation (Cauê Formation), there are some carbonate mineralisations associated to copper minerals like malachite and chrysocolla.
