Mississippi Valley Type (MVT) deposit within Lower Muschelkalk (Triassic) limestones and dolomites. The mineralization consists of Zn-Pb-Fe sulphides found in a subhorizontal stratiform level 5-30 cm thick and several hundreds meters of lateral continuity. Minor veins and vugs are also found. Post-mineralization karstification is also present.

Three abandoned mines near the village of Pontons were worked for the supergene minerals, mainly 'calamines': Mina Este, Mina Noroeste and Mina Noreste (East, Northwest and Northeast mines). Mining took place during the first decades of the 20th century. Estimated reserves are 0.5 million Tm.
