Xenolitic remnants of an ultramafic Archaean complex. The 1975 reference notes a high nickel content of 11.5 wt% Ni, but no visible sulphide species.
It is described as a nickel bearing aluminium serpentine (septechlorite). Major species was quartz, serpentine, hornblende, talc, with minor feldspar, chlorite, and magnetite from the oxidized zone.
The site is located approximately 8 kilometres west of the South Windarra mine and 255 kms NNE of Kalgoorlie.
While the site does not appear to contain interesting species, an unusual chlorite has been identified from the deposit. This however would not be apparent to most collectors without sophisticated equipment, unavailable to most of us. It was originally identified in 1975 as serpentine, however two years later was determined to be chlorite. It has an absence of a 14A X-ray powder diffraction which is a characteristic of most chlorite. The crystals are twinned by the mica law, with a mosaic texture. This S type chlorite weathers to Ni-vermiculite, which was also found at the deposit as golden-yellow flakes in drill cores.
The un-developed Ni prospect contains 0.27 Mt of ore @ 1.38 Ni grade for 3676 Ni tonnes.
