Shear zone and quartz vein-type gold deposit, consisting of diseminations and veinlets that occur parallel to schistosity in mylonite. Host rock alterations are albite, silica, sericite, chlorite, pyrite, and carbonate alterations. The deposit is located in a tonalite-trondhjemite-granodiorite belt in the North China Platform. The host rocks are derived from mafic volcanic rocks, volcanic graywackes, and banded iron formations (BIF) that are metamorphosed to granulite, pyroxene gneiss, and amphibolite. The isotopic age of the metamorphic rock is 3.5 Ga. The metamorphosed supracrustal rock is interpreted by some workers as a greenstone belt. Shearing and retrograde metamorphism to greenschist facies probably occurred at 2.5 to 2.6 Ga, 1.7 to 1.8 Ga, or later.
The ∼ 160 Ma Jinchangyu gold deposits are also hosted in Archean greenstones, with an Au reserve of ∼ 90 t and an average grade of 5.30 g/t. four mineralization stages can be identified: (I) the albite-quartz vein stage containing albite, quartz, pyrite, molybdenite and hematite; (II) the quartz-pyrite vein stage containing pyrites, chalcopyrite, galena, and native gold; (III) the quartz-sulfide vein stage containing pyrite, galena, chalcopyrite, sphalerite and native gold the quartz-carbonate vein stage containing carbonate, quartz and minor sulfides.
