McComas claims
A former Mn-flagstone occurrence/mine located in the NW¼ sec. 3, T11N, R13W, G&SRM, 0.9 km (0.6 mile) NE of Plancha Mountain (coordinates of record), 11 miles S of Signal, on private land within a Bureau of Land Management administered land (located claim). Discovered 1950. Owned by S. J. Love, Arizona (1958). Produced in the 1930's and 1953-1954. The USGS MRDS database stated accuracy for this locality is 1,000 meters.
Mineralization is a bedded Mn deposit. The ore bodies strike N20W and dip 25SW and/or strike N85W and dip 20SW at a thickness of 1.83 meters (6 feet) and/or 3.66 meters (10 feet) and a length of 114.3 meters. Ore body No. 1 is a fissure vein; No. 2 is a shear zone; and, No. 3 is a fissure vein. It covers an area of 15 HA. The primary mode of origin is unknown. Primary ore control was bedding and the secondary control was folding. The ore is enriched along shears and fractures associated with the deformation of beds. Local rocks include Middle Miocene to Oligocene sedimentary rocks.
Local geologic structures include beds that are tilted and warped.
Workings include surface and underground openings. The underground workings have a length of 152.4 meters and an overall depth of 76.2 meters.
Production statistics: Year: 1930: ore (estimated): ^25 weight percent Mn. Year: 1954 (period = 1953-1954): ore (estimated): ^18.4 weight perrcent Mn.
