Vote for your favorite mineral in #MinCup26! - Sphalerite vs. Anorthite
Both zinc ore Sphalerite and calcium plagioclase feldspar Anorthite have perfect cleavage that will split cleanly if you hit them with a hammer, but only one can claim a larger split of your votes!

According to Rand (1957) Plate BE, the locality is on the NW side of Peabody Mountain within Batchelders Grant, not Mason. However, using the lidar hillshade layers on the USGS National Map, no obvious cut is in his marked location, although resolution there is not great. But using Cameron et al (1954, and carefully following the directions and using the topo map of the site, it is easily seen on the lidar at the coordinates posted, not where Rand (1957) marked it.

Cameron et al (1954) states that Floyd Mason discovered the pegmatite in 1923 and operated a quarry there intermittently between 1938 and the fall of 1940 and has been idle since. Their map of the site notes the presence of "many quartz crystals" on the pegmatite surface of the pegmatite outcrop about 130 feet uphill to the south of the cut.
