Sec 3 T40N R38E Gold Silver tungsten
Deposit: Hornfels, shale, and schist are cut by a large steeply-dipping granodiorite dike 250 ft wide and a smaller aplite dike. All rock types are cut by quartz veins and veinlets up to 2 ft wide. Larger veins contain gold, silver, chalcopyrite, and pyrite, but no scheelite. The scheelite occurs in narrow veinlets less than an inch wide. Some veinlets 0.25-0.5 inch wide are nearly half scheelite, and highest grade is at vein intersections. In one place 350 ft from the portal of the adit, several veinlets intersect to give a grade of about 1 % wo3 over a 2 ft width. Avereage grade of the 7 tons of ore mined in 1955 was less than 0.4 % wo3. The charlestown hill national mines inc consisted of a group of 11 claims owned by this montana corporation formed in 1916. A small production was made by lessees in its early years. The property was inactive from 1929 until vanderburg's report in 1938. Deposit type: Polymetallic veins

Development: Property was located in 1919 by mr. And mrs. Clough. A camp and mill were built and a 1200-ft adit was driven to explore for gold and silver. Tungsten mineralization was discovered in 1943, but no production was recorded until 1955 when the red rose mining and milling co. Shipped 7 tons of ore that yielded 2 units wo3. No activity at time of examination in 1985.

Geology: Geol.com: pyrite and other sulfides are disseminated through the sediments, highest grade scheelite at seam intersections vein width is 2 feet. Gangue is hard, white quartz with disseminanted chalcopyrite, and small values in gold and silver.
