Sec 20 T38N R42E. Tactite.
Structure: Getchell Fault Faults Trending Ssw, Dipping Steeply East Cut And May Offset Tactite Bodies.
Alteration: Nontronite From Alteration Of Tactite In Shear Zone
Deposit: Mine is on the east side of the granodiorite stock along the nearly-concordant, east-dipping contact between granodiorite and limestone. The east wall of the tactite layer exposed in the north adit, is gouge and sheared rock of the large getchell fault zone along the east side of the range. The tactite is tightly sealed against the granodiorite, and the two rock types serve locally As a footwall for the wide fault zone. elsewhere the fault may cut through projections of tactite and granodiorite, and it probably cuts across gently dipping portions of the contact zone at depth, thus limiting the downward extent of part of the ore zone. Area was originally prospected for silver and copper. Mined from 1943-1944 and 1951-1955 in surface operations. North of the mine a few hundred feet is a thin (3-10 ft wide) discontinuous tactite body which outcrops for 200-250 ft., containing 0.3 to 0.4% wo3. In 1945, workings cnsisted of a 255-ft. Adit, a 315-ft. Adit As well As many pits, trenches and short adits ; info.src : 1 pub lit; 2 unpub rept
Deposit type: W skarn
Development: Originally prospected for silver and copper (early 1900'). Owned by a mr. Saunders of winnemucca, the property was leased to harold's club mining co of reno in 1943 and 1944, and to mr. Don bergner in 1945. About 1530 tons ore averaging 0.95 % wo3 were shipped to the metals reserve co for stockpiling in 1943-1944. The property, owned by the valley view mining co. And by r. B. Spitzer was again active 1951-1956 during which time 72000 tons ore (0.55 % wo3) were mined and shipped to getchell mill.
Geology: Main orebody n. Of bunch creek is 2-7 ft. Wide for 300 ft. Where it expands into a body 200 ft. By 50 to 100 ft. Of mixed hornfels and tactite. This body of tactite formed in a pocket where the granodiorite contact changed orientation abruptly from concordant with to discordant across the sediments.
