The Gold Road vein lies about 1½ miles NE of the Tom Reed vein and has approximately the same strike - nearly NW. The general dip of the vein is 80º to 85ºNE. It follows a fault fissure on which there has been a normal displacement, with a throw of probably over 300 feet. This displacement appears to have occurred before and during the deposition of the vein.
The lode is a fairly regular sheeted zone 100 feet or more in total width. It appears to consist throughout most of the workings of two main, nearly parallel, veins known as the North vein and the South vein, accompanied by many smaller stringers. Records indicate the existence of two main ore shoots.
The material of the Gold Road vein consists generally of many thin layers of fine-grained, flinty or chalcedonic quartz, so that the vein in cross-section is beautifully banded, the effect being enhanced by the variety of coloring of the different layers, which range from white, pale yellow, green or buff to dark brown. Calcite occurs in distinct veinlets younger than the quartz and, so far as known, is barren. Some adularia is associated with the quartz but is recognizable only under the microscope. Free gold was said to be occasionally visible in the ore.
