Caegwernog worked a number of well-mineralised lodes of short strike running through the Clogau Shales at the head of the Wrin valley, and carrying galena, sphalerite, pyrite and arsenopyrite.
First opened in 1842-43, three adits have been driven, two as early as 1846, together with a shaft and various trials. Caegwernog worked imtermittently till 1905, the last owners being the St David's Mining Development Company Ltd.
The only recorded output is in 1874, when 19 tons of zinc ore was produced.
