In 1900 the Vieille Montagne Lead and Zinc Company purchased the lease and started working the mine. The Vieille Montagne Lead and Zinc Company produced 19,499 tonnes of lead ore between 1913 and 1947. Fluorspar was also mined by hand picking the vein and between 1906 and 1914, 908 tonnes had been produced, with a total of 14,326 tonnes over the mines life. During the Second World War there was a small output from the mine, but nothing of significance. In 1948 the mine was taken over by Anglo-Austral Mines.

Extensive workings on Smittergill Hill Sun Vein/Rotherhope Fell Vein/Rotherhope Cleugh Sun Vein/Crag Green North Vein/Dowpot Sike Vein. Underground working for lead ceased in 1948, but since then much dump material has been carted away to be processed for fluorspar.
Grid ref given is for Blackburn Level.

There are some excellent specimens of fluorite in collections from this mine, most of which came from flats in the Tyne Bottom Limestone that are below the horizon of the Blackburn Level and now flooded.

There is an surperb suite of Rotherhope Fell specimens, mostly collected in the 1930s, in the Russell collection, at the Natural History Museum, London.
