A former U-V occurrence/mine located in the W½ sec. 13, T40N, R28E, G&SRM, 4.4 km (2.8 miles) NNW of Black Rock Point (coordinates of record) and 0.25 miles W of Tsitah Wash, on the E rim of Dry Mesa. The USGS MRDS database stated accuracy for this locality is 100 meters.
Mineralization is tyuyamunite and carnotite in irregular tabular layers hosted in Late Jurassic claystone, siltstone and sandstone Salt Wash Member of Morrison Formation, on the SW limb of the Toh Atin anticline. Ore is found in clusters, usually associated with carbonaceous detritus. Tyuyamunite, pascoite, volborthite, and montroseite occurs in bands and lenses associated with carbon matter pockets along sandstone - mudstone contact in the Salt Wash Member. Montroseite occurs as masses of fine needles 0.01 to 0.03 mm long and rimming quartz and feldspar grains plus less often disseminated in calcite cement. Local rocks include rocks of the Morrison Formation.
Workings include underground openings. The Martin Mine provided initial access to The Simpson lb ore body.
This mine alone has produced several thousand tons of U-V ore. 1,481 tons of ore @ 0.26% U3O8; 1.93% V2O5 (1951, 1953-1955) produced by the Vanadium Corporation of America under contract with the AEC; includes illegal shipment by Jimmie King in 1954-1955.
There may be some residual resources.
