Pumpellyite, in association with actinolite, epidote, prehnite, chlorite, albite, white mica, titanite, smectite and calcite, is found in tholeiitic metadolerites of Late Triassic (Liassic?) age.
In the metadolerite the pumpeyllite fills veinlets, replaces primary plagioclase and orthopyroxene, and appears in the groundmass.
The metadolerites, metamorphosed during the Eo-Alpine event, crop out as tectonic blocks several hundred meters in size, covering an approximate area of 0.1 km2, "in a quarry located 2 km south of the town of Archidona, at the junction between the Arroyo de Marin and the Archidona-Villanueva del
Trabuco road" (Aguirre et al., 1995) - i.e. the Tejea quarry).
