The Shiqiaopu gold deposit is hosted primarily in the Neoproterozoic Banxi Group, which unconformably overlies greenschist-facies metasedimentary rocks of the Lengjiaxi Group. The Banxi Group comprises three formations deposited in deep-water to nearshore marine settings: (1) the Shiqiaopu Formation (metavolcaniclastic breccias, slates, and tuffaceous sandstones), (2) the Madiyi Formation (siltstones, sandstones, and carbonaceous slates), and (3) the Mobin Formation (feldspathic quartz sandstones and siltstones).
The main orebodies (veins II, III, V, and VI) strike NW–SE, dip SW at 42°–80°, and range from 0.5 to 20 m in thickness. They contain proven and probable reserves exceeding 550 kg of gold at average grades of 0.1–7 g/t. These veins are hosted chiefly in mylonitized metavolcaniclastic rocks and sandy slates of the Shiqiaopu Formation and display intense pyritization, silicification, chloritization, and minor realgar and galena mineralization. The consistent calcite + sericite assemblage points to a low- to moderate-temperature (∼250–450 °C) hydrothermal system typical of orogenic gold deposits.
