Mina Las Sombras, Lovios, Ourense, Galicia, España

Tin-tungsten mine, worked from 1936 to 1952.

The Las Sombras-Carris W-(Mo) mines (Total resources 0.28 Mt @ 0.5–0.9 % WO3) include several 1 to 3 m thick swarms of quartz and K-feldspar veins with a variable width between 5 and 20 cm. Many of the veins have diffuse contacts with the host granodiorite, which is affected by pervasive sodic and potassic (i.e., albite and K-feldspar) metasomatic alteration. The stringers are fracture infillings in dilation crack sites associated with a shear zone. In contrast, the feldspar metasomatism, and the diffuse borders of the veins, suggest a magmatic-hydrothermal environment with early magmatic fluids being exsolved when the granitic body had not fully crystallized and still displaying a semi-ductile behavior.
