Ancient iron mining area. Main ores were siderite and ferroan magnesite. Minor sulpides occur in the carbonate ore.
The deposit was (re-)discovered in 1846, when old adits were encountered (Friedrich, 1963). It was mined via adits until 1863. Later prospecting was done 1913-1914, and in the 1950s. It finally stopped in 1961.
Geologically, it formed hydrothermally in two steps (Friedrich, 1963): 1) metasomatic replacement of limestone by dolomite along a fault; 2) metasomatic replacement of the dolomite by more or less iron-bearing magnesite.
The genesis of the Kaswassergraben deposit is very similar.
Located about 3 km NW of Annaberg, in the eastern Tennen Mts.
