A former U occurrence/mine located in the NE¼ sec. 28, T41N, R23E, G&SRM, 2.2 km (1.4 miles) ESE of Yazzi Mesa (coordinates of record) and 6.4 miles NW of Dinnehotso. Owned by the Climax Uranium Co.
Mineralization is uraninite and tyuyamunite with associated species in irregular masses, tabular lenses, rods (cylindrical log-like structures) hosted in Middle Triassic De Chelly sandstone of the Shinarump Conglomerate Member Of Chinle Formation and conglomerate. Mineralization occurs for 7 feet into the De Chelly sandstone. No U minerals have been found higher than 20 feet above the base of the channels, and the highest concentrations are in the lower 5 feet of the more carbonaceous sediments. Shinarump ore deposits are confined to paleohannels. Local rocks include Permian to Pennsylvanian sedimentary rocks.
Workings include surface and underground openings over an area of 1.84 HA and with a length of 213.36 meters and a width of 91.44 meters.
Production from tract No. 1 South was 8,049 tons of ore @ 0.29% U3O8 (1952-1954). Tract No. 2 West produced 295 tons of ore @ 0.30% U3O8 (1955-1958), while tract No. 1 North produced 17,950 tons of ore @ 0.29% (1951-1959).
Analytical data results: V:U ratio is 5:1.
