The Xiangcaowa ore-bearing rock series is comprised of the top claystone layer and the bottom bauxite layer, which is covered by carbonate rocks. Iron-bearing claystone underlying the bauxite occurs locally. The paleo-karstic topography determines the thickness and shape of bauxite; thick, high-quality bauxite is generally formed in karstic depressions, and bauxite is thin or absent in karstic uplifted areas. The Xiangcaowa bauxite is mainly layered and stratoid and is approximately 3 to 5 metres thick. The ore is light gray, with oolitic, clastic, and cryptocrystalline textures.
