El Diccionario geográfico-estadístico-histórico de España y sus posesiones de Ultramar (Madoz, 1847), en su tomo VIII, página 344, referente al municipio de Genalguacil dice:
“muchas minas de varios metales, denlas cuales se han beneficiado mas de 500, pero sin lucro alguno, habiendo llamado particularmente la atención las de hierro y cobre-, siendo de estas las de mayor nombradia las que se hallan en tes sities llamados Majadal del Toro y Herrumbrosa, dist. una leg.'dela pobl., el uno ai S. y el otro al N ; hay ademas de esto una fab. de fundición , tiirdada de San José , propia de una sociedad; y á una leg. al S. de la v. y al pie de Sierra Bermeja, la cueva que dicen de Baque que se interna 4 ó 5 varas, en la cual brola un copioso manantial rodeado de los minerales de cobre, hierro y plata”.

En la actualidad apenas quedan vestigios de la Mina Majal del Toro, con lo que parece ser una galería cegada con escombrera en la vertiente derecha del pequeño cerro y restos de un pequeño muro exterior de mampostería para nivelar el terreno; en el margen izquierdo del cerro parece hallarse restos de otra escombrera.
