Dataigou BIF (Anshan-Benxi area, Northeastern China) with a proven reserve of >5.0 billion tonnes (Gt) Fe and an average grade of 35%—the most extensive BIF in China. This BIF has yet to been mined because of its deep burial (greater than 1,000 m below surface). The Dataigou BIF is associated with metashales and metagraywackes that have been metamorphosed to greenschist facies. These metasedimentary units are commonly interbedded with the BIF with sharp contacts and little to no grading, erosion, or intermixing.
