Further evidence for pyrometallurgical activities date mainly to the 12th century and are related to the non-ferrous smelting industry. The present study is focused mainly on the slag remains from these technologies. In contrast to the furnaces used for Fe metallurgy, which were partly entrenched in the geological background, the remains of furnaces and fragments of slags from non-ferrous metallurgy form backfill material in the underground levels of rectangular buildings (built from timber and soil material) with holes for wooden stakes along the edges and are located stratigraphically above the layers corresponding to ferrous metallurgy remains and sand pits.
