Commodity: Dark blue, very hard
Deposit: Seam of turquoise in dark-grey cherty rock; at other locality, small seams of turquoise are in jasperoid, with dark brown and black matrix. Turquoise was first discovered on the pirate no. 3 claim at the west end of the group of variscite claims. Later more torquoise was found 'on a small knob about 0.25 mile south of the center line of the claim. ; info.src : 1 pub lit; 3 field observ
Development: Dees and murphy sold their claims to los angeles gem co., variscite was being recovered in 1968 a considerable quantity of turquoise was shipped during several years of operation before the mines closed down
Geology: Host rock cut by pyrite bearing quartz veins, copper and mn, oxide stained, dark smokey-quartz veins cut rocks, box work abundent, coated with chalsedony & calcitte.
