Erglodd was usually worked in conjunction with Penpontbren and Penybach. And was first developed in the 1740's by the Company Of Mine Adventurers, but is much older as a date of 2340–2130 cal. BC was found for charcoal from the base of a spoil tip. The next recorded reworking was not until the 1840's and then on and off until 1883.
