A salt deposit/mine located 4.8 km (3.0 miles) SE of Missouri City, on private land. Discovered in 1903 by the Rio Bravo Oil Company. Operated by the United Salt Corporation. MRDS database accuracy for this location is not stated. Discovered by surface geology and gas seeps. Facility also used for the storage of liquid petroleum gas. Oil, condensate and gas production have occurred from 1919 to present.
Mineralization is a salt deposit (Mineral occurrence model information: Model code: 252; USGS model code: 35a.4 (35ad); Deposit model name: Salt domes: diapiric salt structures), hosted in Middle Jurassic Louann salt. The ore body has a depth-to-top of 70.1 meters. The depth to caprock is 143 feet and to the salt it is 230 feet. Salt volume was calculated at 1.3 cubic miles to 10,560 feet. Local rocks include rocks of the Beaumont Formation, areas predominantly clay.
Local geologic structures include a piercement salt dome.
Workings include the infrastructure for the solution mining of salt.
