Abandoned asbestos mines above Alp Cancian at Platti da Cancian (Piatte di Canciano).
Serpentinite is frequently crossed by metamorphic veinlets filled with fibrous chrysotile.
Nephrite-bearing clefts in serpentinite were discoverd in proximity of the mines (Schmidt, 1917; Staub, 1925). According to the analytical data reported by Schmidt, Mg content in the nephrite-forming amphibole varies from 4.18 apfu (actinolite) to 4.66 apfu (tremolite). The Swiss coordinates indicated in Dietrich & De Quervain (1968) for the nephrite occurrence are 798.370/131.410.
Black rombohedral andradite crystals in association with green lizardite and colourless to white spatic calcite have been found in the dumps (Romani, 2000; Bedognè et al., 2006).
