Mo-bearing skarn deposit within mixed dolostone-limestone in Joseon Supergroup with calcic skarn of upper part and magnesian skarn of lower part.

The Geumseong Mo deposit is situated within the Cambro–Ordovician dolomite–limestone series of the Lower Heungwolri and upper Samtaesan Formation. The bottom of a Mo orebody revealed the presence of an aplitic cupola, and based on the petrographic characteristics and age constraints, it was identified as a part of the Muamsa granite. The proved reserves of the Geumseong deposit were reported to be 1,315,200 metric tons (MoS2 0.40 %). Currently, it is the sole operating Mo mine in South Korea, producing approximately 480 to 910 tons annually since the 2010s.
Two spatially distinct types of skarn formation were observed in the Geumseong deposit. The shallower calcic Mo skarn has replaced massive or argillaceous platy limestone and contains hedenbergite, garnet, epidote, wollastonite, magnetite, hematite, actinolite, and chlorite. The deeper proximal skarn is a magnesian Fe skarn that discordantly replaced dolomitic layer within gray limestone at the contact with the aplitic cupola on a scale of several meters. The skarn is divided into endoskarn and exoskarn. The former exhibits a limited distribution, typically less than a few centimeters in width, whereas the latter occurs more broadly, with a width of several meters.
