A S-salt deposit located at High Island (town), along the Texas Gulf Coast, on private land. Discovered in 1901. Operated by the U.S. Sulphur Pan American (1962-1968). First year of production was 1960 and the last year was 1971. Production years included the periods 1960-1962 and 1968-1971. MRDS database accuracy for this location is not stated. Explored for sulfur during the period 1954-1958 by Isthmus Sulphur Company.
Mineralization is a shallow piercement salt dome deposit (Mineral occurrence model information: Model code: 255; USGS model code: 35a.7 (35ag); Deposit model name: Salt-dome sulfur), hosted in Middle Jurassic Louann limestone and salt. The ore body has a depth-to-top of 45.72 meters. The depth to caprock is 150 feet and to the salt it is 1,228 feet. Salt volume was calculated at 2.1 cubic miles to 10,000 feet of depth. Local alteration includes the biogenic alteration of anhydrock to limestone. Local rocks include Beaumont Formation, areas predominantly sand.
Workings include the wells and surface infrastructure for the Frasch process mining of sulfur.
