Miniere d'oro della Val Segnara, Calasca-Castiglione, Provincia del Verbano-Cusio-Ossola, Piemonte, Italia


Ancient gold workings located in the upper Val Segnara, mainly near Alpe del Lago and in the area of Alpe della Rossola-Cima di Capezzone (above Alpe di Cortevecchio).

The Alpe del Lago (or Alpe Lago) workings include some trenches and galleries in a subvertical quartz vein outcropping on the side of the creek above the Alp (coordinates of the Alp: 45.961055 N, 8.241527 E).

The Alpe della Rossola-Cima di Capezzone workings are located between 2000 and 2100 m, where some quartz veins crop out (the coordinates of the placeholder indicate the nearby small lake at ca. 2090 m). One of these workings was named "Miniera dei Cristalli", because of the presence of hyaline quartz crystals (Barelli, 1835; Jervis, 1873).

Other prospects were excavated at lower elevations at Vaud locality (near the Segnara stream) and near Alpe Agarè (or Alpe L'Agarè).
