The upper course of Rio di Valbona, just to the east of Malga Valbona, allows reaching the foot of the cliffy western slope of Sass Negher.

An ancient copper mine was opened at the foot of Sass Negher. In an adit located at 1880 m, a sulphide mineralisation and some alteration products are observable. The same mineralisation is observable in the debris at the foot of the cliff. The hydrothermal mineralisation is hosted in a volcaniclastic breccia cemented by calcite. The main ore minerals are chalcopyrite and bornite, accessory and minor minerals include chalcocite, tetrahedrite, galena, sphalerite, pyrite, and magnetite. Traces of nickel sulphides and sulphoarsenides have been observed. Secondary minerals include covellite, cerussite, copper carbonates, chrysocolla, and iron hydroxides.

Pale green cubic or octahedral crystals of fluorite have been found in the white carbonate rock in proximity of the mine.

Various minerals can be found in the volcanic rocks of the Sass Negher west slope: rutile, as tiny acicular crystals in quartz; baryte, as rosettes of pink lamellar crystals; quartz, as pyramidal hyaline, white, or amethyst crystals in geodic cavities up to 8 cm in diametre, heulandite, as orange tabular crystals of 1-2 cm; analcime, as millimetric white crystals.
