Sands with abundant heavy minerals (black sands), mainly derived from disaggregated pyroclastic rocks belonging to the Roccamonfina volcanic complex, near the mouth of River Garigliano.

In the period 1943-1953 magnetite was recovered from the beaches near the mouth of River Garigliano (partly also in the municipal territory of Minturno, Latina Province, Lazio) by the Italian steel company "Terni - Società per l'Industria e l'Elettricità S.p.A.".
