A former Ag-Pb-Au-Zn-Baryte-Cu occurrence/mine located in the NE¼ sec. 25, T13N, R15W, G&SRM, about 12 miles West of Signal at McCracken Peak, on Bureau of Land Management administered land. Discovered in 1874 by McCracken and Owens. The property is comprised of 10 claims in 1962. Past operators include McCormick Silver Lead; McCracken Mountain Mining Company; Signal Mines Company; Ben Griffith; W.W. Thomas; and the Arivada Development Company. First produced in 1875 and last in 1960. Owned & operated by Magnum Consolidated Mining Company, Canada (1968). Owned by Ben Griffith (1977). The USGS MRDS database stated accuracy for this locality is 1,000 meters.
Mineralization is a polymetallic vein deposit hosted in diorite, mica schist and pegmatite. There are 2 veins 6 to 20 feet wide. The ore body is tabular ledges that strike N-S and dip 65E at a width of 9.14 meters and a length of 609.6 meters. Faults of minor displacement occur throughout the area with E-W jointing. Environment is a metamorphic complex of Precambrian age. Intrusive igneous rocks of Tertiary age. There is little alteration. Local alteration is little (fresh). Associated rocks include Pliocene-Neoproterozoic diorite. Local rocks include Early Proterozoic granitic rocks.
Regional geologic features include complex faulting placing Tertiary volcanic rocks against Precambrian granitic rocks. Flows also overlie Precambran rocks south of McCracken Peak. Local geologic features include jointing perpendicular and parallel to the veins.
Workings include surface and underground openings with a length of 2,743.2 meters, an overall depth of 182.88 meters, overall length of 609.6 meters and an overall width of 18.29 meters and comprised of a 20 foot deep open cut(s). The main shaft has levels at 50, 100, 250 and 400 feet, and is 600 feet deep on a 70 degree incline. Also included are a shaft with 2 levels on top of McCracken Peak.
Reserves and resources: In-situ (estimated year = 1986): Total resources: 181,000 metric tons of ore at 248.827 grams Ag/metric ton (1986). Reserves include open pit and underground reserves.
Analytical data results: Assay: traces of Pb, Au; 2.6, 2.8 and 11.56 ounces Ag/ton.
