A former small surface and underground Cu-Ag-Au mine group located in East-central sec. 33, T.14S., R.2E. (protracted), 3½ miles W of the Quijotoa Trading Post. Produced 1956. Owned by the Weldon Gold & Copper Co. Operated by Covered Well Co.
Mineralization is oxidized copper sulfides and pyrite in irregular fractures in a strongly chloritized and pyritized fault zone between Laramide rhyolitic volcanics and quartz diorite intrusive. Placer gold occurs in a gravel bar containing abundant boulders and little clay. The bar rests on a granite pediment. These gravels range from 6 to 11 feet thick.
Workings include tunnel and pit operations. Prospected in the late 1800's but the main production of some 730 tons of about 2% Cu, 1 oz. Ag/t ore and minor gold occurred in 1956.
