A former small underground Cu-Ag-Pb-Au-Zn-As-W mine located in the East-central (SE¼SE¼) sec. 19, T.23S., R.16E. (protracted), on the north end of Guajolote Flat, ½ mile S of the Homestake Mine, 1 mile NNW of Red Hill, 4.0 miles SW of Harshaw, on National Forest land. Produced 1937-1941. Owned by the Paymaster Silver-Lead Co. (1919), and the Richardson Corp. (1939). Operated by Mr. Jack Bostwick; Lynch; Mr. Joe Bacon; Bond & Hutchins (1939).

Mineralization is the NE-trending Jackalo-Paymaster vein, a quartz vein containing sulfides along a strong shear zone in strongly altered, shattered, sheeted, and crushed Laramide granodiorite. Oxidation and enrichment near the surface. Strong potassic alteration. The source of mineralization is believed to be from the central portion of porphyritic granodiorite intruding the Guajolote Fault. Deposits in the region occur in the form of subordinate veins, lenses, stringers, and seams in fractures, fissures, joints, and sheeting planes in rock.


Local structures include the NW-trending, inferred Guajolote Fault terminated by the Jackalo-Paymaster fissure vein just east of the paymaster property.

Tectonic elements include the Guajolote Fault Block with downthrow to the east.

Workings include shaft operations. This mine produced some 130 tons of ore averaging about 7% Cu, 8 oz. Ag/T, and minor Au, with As as a by-product.
