Parallel to the mining operations in Lichtenberg and Schmirchau, exploratory work was carried out east of the Lichtenberg mine in the so-called "Combine 5," which was initially part of the Schmirchau mine district. Shafts 374, 374bis, and 378 were sunk here. The sinking of the twin-shaft system 374/374bis, a new operation, began in 1956 in brick lining down to the 240-meter level. Its construction required a considerable amount of time, especially since the associated buildings and hoisting equipment for the future Reust mine were also being built simultaneously.
Mining, and thus the extraction of uranium ore, began in the Reust mining field in 1960 (Chronik der Wismut, 2.2.14.2.)
