Historic gold mine. Bordered on the south by the Point Russell, east Alfred, north Eureka, and west the Moanataiari leases.

The leases contained several auriferous veins including the Alfred Reef, Reuben Parr Reef, Moanataiari cross-lode. Most gold production occurred where the latter two intersected. The cross-lode averaged one foot wide, is filled with clay and quartz grit, except where it insects other reefs, where it is filled with highly auriferous solid quartz. The reefs held more gold where they cross andesite country rock, rather than breccias. Chalcopyrite, sphalerite and pyrite is also found in the quartz.

(Fraser, 1910) states the Moanataiari Extended Claim was also known as the Hidden Treasure, supported by some newspaper articles. However, some earlier articles describe a Hidden Treasure lease on the Thames foreshore, which the Moanataiari Extended lease is clearly not. It is assumed two leases on the Thames goldfield went by this name, but it is often unclear which the articles are referring to. Fraser states the Moanataiari Extended lease was operated by the Moanataiari North, Alfred, Moanataiari Extended companies and the Hidden Treasure Syndicate 1890 to 1908 producing 1075 ounces of gold. The Point Russell Company is noted on the lease in 1911, named after a nearby lease, and thereby thought to be the Moanataiari Hidden Treasure.
