A small quarry east of the Gallberg (SW of Herbstein) exists on the topographical map of ~1900. Larger quarries started around 1960 at the location of this old quarry. Now occupied by an industrial area. Quarrying continued at the top of the Gallberg in about 1980-1990, followed by operations 1.5 km SW in the direction of Lanzenhain. The Gallberg area is now landscaped and recultivated and the last operation near Lanzenhain is being backfilled, as visible on Google Earth. A new quarry operation started near Altenschlirf.
